Central Square Laura of Murtha honored at SUNY Oswego convocation

2013 May 14

Laura M. Murtha of Central Square was honored at SUNY Oswego's recent Honors Convocation, where she received the Louis R. DeRitter Award.

Murtha is a member of the class of 2014 studying adolescence education and mathematics at Oswego.

The formal ceremony, complete with a procession of faculty and college officers in full academic regalia, is sponsored each spring at Oswego by Vega, the women's honor society.

The audience included faculty, staff, students and students' family members. SUNY Oswego honored 111 students at the ceremony.

Admission to SUNY Oswego is competitive. U.S. News Media Group counts SUNY Oswego among the top public regional universities in the North for 2013, and the Princeton Review includes Oswego in its 2013 college guidebook "The Best Northeastern Colleges," as well as its 2013 list of "best value" colleges and universities nationally.

A 152-year-old comprehensive college in the State University of New York system, Oswego enrolls about 8,000 students in its College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; School of Business; School of Communication, Media and the Arts; and School of Education.
