Emily Stasko volunteers during Alternative Winter Break

Emily R. Stasko of Huntington Station, a senior majoring in public relations at SUNY Oswego, took part in the college's 2017-18 Alternative Winter Break service program. Stasko volunteered with Elizabethtown, Kentucky, beginning the construction of a new home, applying plasterboard to existing houses, and participating in food drives at a food warehouse.

SUNY Oswego's Office of Community Services offers Oswego students a variety of opportunities to volunteer and travel during Alternative Breaks in winter and spring. Ranging from international to domestic to local trips, these breaks allow students to explore while volunteering.

Dozens of students volunteered in December-January at Habitat for Humanity in Omaha, Nebraska; Project Lazarus in New Orleans, Louisiana, for people living with HIV or AIDS; and building homes in Elizabethtown, Kentucky;
