Emma Moriarty of Port Jefferson Station Aids in Oswego Volleyball's First Conference Win

2016 Sep 24

Emma Moriarty of Port Jefferson Station aided in Oswego State volleyball's comeback 3-2 win over Plattsburgh in the team's first SUNYAC contest of 2016. Potsdam hosted the SUNYAC Pool Play, seeing Oswego improve to 9-5 on the year while the Cardinals drop to 7-6.

Sophomore Ariel Murawski led all hitters with 16 kills in the tilt, just three shy of her career-high, set last year against SUNY Poly. Senior captain Meaghan Roefs had a stellar outing, finishing with the second-most Laker kills with 11 while blocking a match-high five attack attempts. Aiding Roefs on defense were classmate Megan Russell and sophomore Alison Sullivan, blocking four and three, respectively. Russell was also effective on offense, earning just one-kill shy of double digits.

Junior Rina Qelaj set a new career-high while leading the team in passing, collecting 21 digs on the night. Emma Moriarty chipped in 20 digs while senior classmate Lauren Edwards tallied 18. Edwards set a team-high 22 assists with classmate Lindsey Champitto tossing in 20 helpers.

Oswego will continue with pool play on Saturday, opening with New Paltz at 10 a.m. before a 12:30 matchup with Geneseo.
