Oswego State Soccer's Morrison Went 'Beyond' Last Spring

2016 Aug 18

The Oswego State women's soccer team's season is just weeks away, and two individuals are returning with a new experience under their belts. Mary Morrison and Sarah Grupp traveled to Costa Rica for eight days in May for Beyond Sports' Fourth Annual Costa Rica Women's Soccer Tour. Mary Morrison of Fulton NY joined a team of all-conference honorees and statistical leaders from colleges across the country to take on Costa Rica's top club teams, including Jr. National players. In addition to the competition component of the trip, athletes also provided sports clinics for Costa Rican youth. One clinic was hosted at a local school in San Jose, and another in partnership with Special Olympics of Costa Rica. The group also visited Manuel Antonio National Park and Volcano Arenal during the tour, with opportunities to zip-line through the rainforest, learn to surf and encounter wildlife. Beyond Sports, founded in 2010, is the first study abroad program designed specifically for student-athletes. To date, they have hosted athletes from over 200 different colleges across the country through summer, Jan-term and semester programs in Costa Rica and South Africa. Make sure to catch Morrison, Grupp and the rest of the Laker squad during the 2016 campaign by checking the team's schedule page for home contest dates.
